David Cameron campaigns in Bromley

David Cameron yesterday joined local by-election candidate Bob Neill on the campaign trail in Bromley and Chislehurst. The two were greeted by numerous well-wishers as they made their way up Bromley High Street past the Glades shopping centre in bright sunshine.

People working in local businesses, including a hairdresser's and a sandwich shop, stopped work to meet the familiar faces, who were only too pleased to end up several minutes behind schedule due to the volume of the crowds. David Cameron said he was ‘delighted’ with how the campaign was going but that he was taking nothing for granted.

He said: “Bob is a first class candidate and many of the local people here recognise not just him, but also how hard he has worked for the people here during his six years representing the area in the London Assembly. Bob has consistently taken on Ken Livingstone on issues like local crime and overdevelopment and I’m sure that as the area’s MP he would continue to be a strong voice for local people.”

Bob added: “You can’t take anything for granted in politics and this by-election is no exception. I am going to continue to fight a positive campaign here focused on the issues that I have raised in my time on the London Assembly like crime and the local environment. I hope local people will look at my record representing this area over the past six years and see that I would be an effective voice for them if I became their MP.”
